For years I would DREAD Valentine’s Day. It was just another day for me to think about the fact that I was all alone. However, after 24 years of being alone on Valentine’s Day I have been able to get to a place where I can enjoy the holiday and celebrate with others.
Here is the thing you don’t have to do the day alone. One of my absolute favorite Valentine’s was spent with my best friend when we decided to take each other out to celebrate. The day started with waking up early, hitting a coffee shop and heading to Valentine’s Day Friends and Lovers Balloon Rally. For those that don’t know Albuquerque is one of the Hot Air Balloon capitals in the world. Every fall people come from all over to see hundreds of different colored and shaped balloons fill our clear blue skies. It is a special site to see and it launches the fall season for us. For Valentine’s local balloonist come out and launch. There is something magical about bundling up, keeping warm with coffee and walking through the isles of balloons lifting up and swirling around you.
Afterwards we headed to Tia B’s La Waffleria. Seriously, if you live in Abq or ever stop through you HAVE to stop and eat at this small restaurant located in the Nob Hill district. They offer all kinds of waffle creations such as Blueberry Lavender, Salted Carmel Apple and Pumpkin Pie. My personal favorite is the Bacon and Egg Waffle. This is, no joke, the tastiest thing you will ever have in your entire life!! It is a bacon infused waffle served with eggs on top, melted butter and hot syrup. Its simply heavenly. And while you are there don’t forget to order a coffee. They proudly serve Prosum Roaster beans which is one of Abq best!
Following that we wandered through the shops in Nob Hill and enjoyed each others company. The day doesn’t have to be one that you dread, but rather one that can bring sweet memories and quality time with someone you love that isn’t necessarily a significant other. Own this season of singleness. God is working behind the scenes orchestrating your love story that is to come. So for now, enjoy!
